Her achievements as a child performer in America (which we refer to as Maureen O'Hara today) would have definitely put her into the child-prodigy class. But for a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended families, these traits came as a naturally. Maureen was welcomed into this cherished refuge within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th 1920. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer team in Ireland. He also owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer club and a Dublin business. Maureen FitzSimons placed second in a household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off the gorgeous family. Maureen did well in sports and was a lover of rough play. Her talent for performing perfectly complemented her interest in sport. That was apparent when she won each Feis for drama and theater the Irish had to offer. At the age of 14, she was invited into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her goal of performing in classical theatre along with operatic music.
